When you look at a Manga book or in general watching Anime you see a lot of conversations going on around a lot where producers of the anime or manga writers have to make profiles. For the past few times I could never draw profiling faces because of how hard it was to draw the jawline and putting it all together but, with the book i'm going to show you how to write profile views of anime girl characters, don't worry because you can do this for the guys just change the hair type. When you are just about to draw the face Camilla D'errico says that when drawing a profile face "the head is completely turned to the side"(43).
With the first step you want to begin drawing an oval and bisecting the oval with a horizontal line (Camilla D'errico 43). Then as you are drawing Cmailla D'errico tells you that " In the middle of the line indicate the ear with a little straight line." As you are drawing a profile's the eyes are a very narrow oval that sits near the edge of the larger oval of the head but not directly on the edge because that will be the bridge of the nose, you will then want to draw a line to indicate the mouth( Camilla D'errico 43).
With step 2 Camilla D'errico recommended you to make an "indent for the bride of the nose, have the line Curving Inward just above the eye then curving outward below the eye"(43). As for the chin draw a diagonal line outside the lower left hand edge of the ova then a longer one curving back into the oval to indicate the jawline. The end of the jawline should aline with the ear (Camilla D'errico 43).
With the 3rd step Camilla D'errico states that you want to " Define the nose, from the bottom of the bride of the nose, extend the line out in a little downward scoop" (43). After defining the nose you want to start creating a button nose and adding a small line for the nostril as a base, then you want to start drawing the line for the mouth and finally adding the lines for the neck ( Camilla D'errico 43).
As you are starting to put the side profile together Camilla Federico recommended as you are starting to define everything starting at the tip start to draw a line that goes down to the point of the chin making 3 indents along the way.(43). Why? she says " One for the space between the nose and upper lip; one for the divot where the lips meet and one for the space between the lower lip and chin." (43). Then you want to start to straighten out the eye curves and defining them (Camilla D'errico 43).
with the step 3 steps you want to "Add a small vertical line in the center of the eye to represent the iris" (Camilla D'errico 44). and with the ear make it a half oval and then defining the ear; you then want to use a black pen to define the hairstyle lastly erase all the marks and you there have the side profile!
A question I have for you Artists is how do you make the profile face what are steps that you do and what are steps that you don't do?
A question for the non-artists is that would you ever take a chance to try to draw a profile face if so how do you think you'd do?

I would and I am pretty certain that it would be awful
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting and I don't think you would be bad I think anything is possible its only if you are willing to take the time and dedication to do it!
DeleteAs someone who used to draw manga a lot when they younger as well, I've never tried to make a profile face. After seeing this I will definitely try but I bet it won't turn out good because I don't usually follow directions.
ReplyDeleteHmm To Ashna I don't either but what I can say is that if you try at least to follow the directions you will definitely have a better result in some way I tend to find out that following the directions are much better for me
