Smokey Eye

A brown smokey eye is a great look if you want a dramatic look, without being too dark. This look works really well on all eye colors - brown, hazel/green or blue. If you're light complected and don't feel comfortable with a look this dark, you can soften it up a bit by skipping the black liner and using a deep brown or charcoal - or you can skip the liner all together. If you have small eyes, black on the waterline can make the eyes appear even smaller, so to avoid this, make sure the eyeshadow on your bottom lash line is extra smokey and extended out and apply a good coat of mascara to the bottom lashes. Adding a flesh toned, ivory or brown liner to your waterline is also an option to open up the eyes.

Here is how i created the brow smokey eye. Instead of brow I used purple and black because you can't really see the brown that well because of my lighting and the eyeshadow colors aren't that pigmented.

Using my ring finger (gives off the best color pigmentation ), I swept this light brow color all over my lids. Then all the way up to my brow bone.

Then I took a purple color and swept it across my lids and  mostly focusing on the outer corners on my eyes to create more depth. Also, I swept the purple color on my bottom lash line to give it a more "smokey" look.
After that, I used a black color and put it on the outer corners of my eyes to create more depth and also my bottom lash line focusing more towards the outer corners.
(purple on left, Black on right)
Then just line your eyes with a black pencil eyeliner as close to the top lashes as possible and smudge it out (make also add liner on your water line to darken the look), then your mascara, and your fake lashes but the fake lashes are optional.
Here's the final results! On the left is the before where I am wearing no makeup and on the right is the after with eye-shadow, fake lashes, etc.

Now my question for you is do you use eye shadow everyday and if you do, how do you apply it/what colors do you use?

  2. While I know that you are able to accomplish with more than just brown colors. Which colors would you say to stay away from while doing smoky eye?

    1. I think anything bright and bold like electric blue, orange, pink, etc. Really any color that is really daring and you would use during the neon '80s era. Smokey eye is used to create depth and give off this dramatic, sometimes dark feeling so I recommend obviously neutrals like brows and black. But you can also use some "daring colors" like dark blues, dark purple, etc. Really anything dark will do fine.

  3. I am terrible at make-up but I've always wanted to learn how to do smokey eye because when I do it, it looks like I have a black eye. How long did it take you to master this make-up technique? :)

    1. It took me actually not that long. This was, I think my 3rd time trying to do a smokey eye but it just took me a while to make it look like how it looks in the photos. I think this took me about 30 to 35 min
