Healthy Food For A Healthy Lifestyle

No one can expect to see a difference in their appearance or overall health with only exercise. You need to eat well along with exercise to get the outcome anyone is looking for as Lou Schuler talks about in his book "Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess". Eating healthier is not as hard as most people think, you can make minor changes for a greater outcome. one example is using a low or fat free milk choice and whole grains rather than refined grains when planning meals. The timing of food consumption is another thing to look at. You should never go to bed either hungry or full, also always eat breakfast (Schuler 72).
This book suggests eating five to six times a day but portioned for your resting metabolic rate (Schuler 63). A healthy choice for a snack between meals Schuler and Cassandra Forsythe provide is simply apples and peanut butter. For someone who is weight training, they need to be sure to get enough protein for their muscles hence the peanut butters importance to the snack. This snack is also easy for someone on the go; slice a medium apple and bring two tablespoons of peanut butter in a container and your set. In this snack there is "285 calories, 8 gram protein, 28 grams carbs (7 grams fiber); 16 grams fat (2 grams saturated)" (Schuler 85).
Also suggested by Schuler and Forsythe is a protein shake after each workout for recovery (Schuler 72). This will give you the protein your muscles require for the training you put them through. You only need one scoop of protein powder;Schuler suggests Whey protein; and 3/4 cup skim milk (Schuler 74). Adding a banana on the side with your shake for extra carbs for muscle recovery, there is "275 calories, 29 grams protein; 36 grams carbs (2,5 grams fiber); 2 grams fat (1 gram saturated)" (Schuler 74).
What is your favorite healthy snack?

  1. I found the things you suggested to be very similar to my current lifestyle. Coincidentally my favorite snack are apples and nuts, both of which are staple foods in my diet. I eat about 5 to 6 times a day including 2nd, 4th and 6th period, and have shake similar to the one described above post-workout. It would appear that you have been observing my eating habits, I do not know how you know so much about me. Its near creepy how much this resembles my life, but I would like to confirm that these suggestions (as listed above) do, in fact work.

  2. The suggesting are beneficial, although if you eat those along with very unhealthy foods they will counteract each other and you will receive no outcome.

  3. My healthy snack is celery and apples as well! Celery is helpful to clean your stomach! And an apple a day keeps the doctors away! They also clean your stomach. Also its very neutricious and healthy. I like to eat two celery and an apple everyday before i go to bed! I like to think it cleans me from all the day stuff i had eaten throughout the day.

    1. Sam eating healthy while eating unhealthy does not give you the results that you want, they will counteract and you end at nothing.

  4. I like to eat a smoothie for breakfast with 1 cup of mixed greens, frozen berries and a little bit of apple juice. I also LOVE apples (but they are high in sugar content, so I try to limit them. I love almonds. I like sugar snap peas. I love those little mini pepper things from Costco.

    1. Mrs. Robison, Almonds are one of my favorite post-workout snacks! But never was really fond of peppers!

  5. I agree with Mrs. Robison, the smoothie in the morning makes the day. Also grapes are so good!

    1. Fruits are high in sugars even if they are natural. Bananas have more sugar in them than apples do although is a good choice apposed to other snacks some people choose.
