In Chapter 6 of the Makeup Manual, Brown has a page with 5 steps to reaching an even eye shadow look with bright colors. I chose to use my Take Me Back to Brazil palette because it has a wide variety of colors.
The first step is to chose a shade that I like. I decided to start with a pink shade because pink suits my eyes best.
The second step states, "Cover the entire lid three-quarters of the way to the brow bone, blending as you go" (Brown 97). I followed this step with my best effort, but this was a bit out of the ordinary for me because usually when I am doing bright eye shadow looks, I do either a cut crease or a halo eye. But for the sake of this, I wanted to learn how to do a simple eye shadow look and still use bright shades.
Third, is to layer the bold color so that it is more pigmented and blend in any other colors into the crease.
Fourth is to just blend the color out more so that the line isn't so harsh.
Fifth is to add any other colors wanted to reach the desired look.
After completing the eye shadow, the outcome was a bright pink blend with orange and purple hues added just for more of a pop. Using Brown's steps made me achieve this easily since I had guidelines to follow. If you struggle with eye shadow, this blog could provide you with tips and tricks on how to reach a bright eye shadow look.
A question for you guys is do you guys prefer bright eye shadow or more neutral shadows?

Hey Amelie, I loved your blog post and enjoyed the pictures of each step to show exactly what you were describing in the text. I usually prefer more natural looks for everyday but if i'm going out somewhere nice I like to do more of a bold eye. Darker colors don't normally look as good on my eyes so I like that you did your blog post on more pigmented brighter colors.
ReplyDeleteThank you! And yes I agree I prefer more natural looks for day-to-day makeup. Thanks for reading my post!
DeleteYour make-up looks so fun. I am a no-frills person when it comes to self-care. I have a face regime that I do each morning and evening, but it is highly focused on skin care and life-long health. I use only natural oils and the only make-up I wear is mascara. I do admire people who can do make-up well though and I love to do Halloween make-up. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I agree, mostly I only wear mascara to school but I love experimenting with different looks.
DeleteLoved your post! The steps you describe along with the pictures give great information on your topic. I prefer more natural shadows because it is easier and still has a more natural look overall with a full makeup look.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love natural looks as well!
ReplyDeleteI personally admire a variety of makeup styles, but due to my eye shape, I tend to stay with neutral colors. I believe that makeup is an art form. It can be creative, and truly is inspiring. Your eye shadow is really good!
ReplyDeleteI also have a specific question. Is the formula for that BH Cosmetics palette is good? I want to buy it but I'm unsure of the quality
DeleteThank you! It is often hard for me to do bright looks due to my hooded eyes but I just love doing pink eye shadow looks. And yes it is actually super good, it is super blend-able, pigmented, and not patchy. Also it is build-able. The only issue I have come across is that if you don't apply concealer underneath the shadow and wear it for a long period of time, it can stain your eye lids for a few hours. Other than that I recommend this palette a lot!
