Men's Clothing: The suit

Not all men's bodies are not equally sized; so you have to make sure your clothes match the size and proportions. If the suit's too big or too small it is as noticeable as the colors of the suit , "While fabrics and patterns usually attract the eye first, the suit's proportions anchor it in time" (Flusser 37).

THE SUIT:
The Jacket:
The Jacket Shoulder: The jacket shoulder should be in proportion to the size of your head, because "As its widest dimension, the shoulder sets the mood for the rest of the jacket. Since the jacket's shoulders frame the head, if they are too narrow, the head will appear larger than actual size; conversely, if cut too wide, the head will appear disproportionately small" (Flusser 37).

The Jacket Length: The length of the jacket is very important for a good height appearance. The length of the jacket can be seen from the waist and down. "Such a man needs to pay particular attention to his jacket's length to help him reproportion his longer torso with his shorter leg line" (Flusser 40). Jackets will usually have the front and back at equal length but "It is quite normal for a jacket to be slightly longer in front than back in order to hang properly" (Flusser 40). You can use your arms length's to help find the sweet spot in the length of your jacket, "The first employs the arm as a guide; when your hand is dropped at your side, the bottom of the jacket is supposed to line up with the outstretched thumb. Though generally reliable, this formula has one drawback: arm length varies from person to person" (Flusser 41). So you must pay attention to the over-all length, you can also take the back collar's seam and measure the length to it to the ground and then divide it in half, and at the half-way point it will be the place where the suit should end.

The Suit Trouser
The suit trousers (pants) is fairly easy to fit, unless you're wearing an exact fit of pants, wearing a belt will help fit trousers relative of your body size. "Suit trousers should extend the line of the jacket" (Flusser 44). "suit trousers should be worn on the waist, not on the hip. Not only does the waist then appear smaller, but by raising the trousers' fullness, it can better fill up the jacket's bottom opening, thereby lengthening the overall figure" (Flusser 44). Do not wear trousers (pants) wear the inseam is too long, if it touches the ground it's too long.

What do you think when someone's clothes are too big or small? Do they or the clothes not look as nice than they could be?

Men's Clothing: Formal and Business/Casual

One must know when to wear different type of clothing at certain occasions and events.

FORMAL
Black & White: A solid black suit, dress shoes, belts, bow tie and a white dress shirt are for formal events. Such as weddings, formal dinners, formal parties, symphony orchestra concerts, and etc. "If a man's suit ranks as his most articulate garment during the day, his formalwear should bespeak eloquence at night. When worn knowledgeably, the classic white-and black-tie formal kits present all men at their debonair best" (Flusser 232).

All-Black: Generally for funerals

BUSINESS AND CASUAL
For business wear dark colors, such as navy blue, grey, crimson red. You can be quite liberal in your choice for casual wear in colors, patterns, and fabrics. Though keep in mind: if you are in a significant position in a business, "Be careful not to dress in such a relaxed manner that you no longer look like someone who can become an authority figure" (Flusser 257).

If you had to dress formally or casually for the rest of your life, which one would it be And why?

Men's Clothing: Dress Shirt

There are many options for a dress shirt if you wear it alone. Though there are certain guidelines you should follow when picking one out for your outfit.

The Color: The color should be a solid color for a formal event. The most commonly worn color is white; this dress shirt is a must have. Generally if the color of the dress shirt is solid it should not be the same color as the suit (or tie if you are wearing one). Though there is an exception to that for certain events; such as a funeral where all-black is worn.
PATTERNS: Some patterns for casual during the seasons
Fall: Striped light colors
Winter: Flannel, diagonal, and check patterned
Spring: Graph check, mini-check, checkerboard
Summer: Bengal Stripe
(Flusser).

An example of a dress shirt for casual wear:

Fitting:
Fitting is fairly easy, the collar when buttoned should perfectly wrap around your neck. And the sleeves"Whether barrel or French cuff, the shirt must fit snugly around the wrist so that the additional length required to keep the cuff from pulling back when the arm is extended does not force it down the hand. Shirt cuff and hand should move as one" (Flusser 135).

Do you like to wear dress shirts casually more often than you do formally? And why?

Men's Clothing: Shoes

The shoes of an outfit is very important. Though they are literally at the bottom of an outfit, simply they are just as important as any other parts of the outfit. There are many shoes for different occasions; formal, casual, sports, and simply for comfort. I am going to tell you the two most common formal shoes in today's fashion.

The Oxford Shoe: Is the most common formal men's shoes in today's fashion, for formal events it is usually in a solid black color but "The plain cap oxford lace-up is the basic shoe style for smart, though not strictly formal, town wear" (Flusser 193). So it can be worn in more upper-style casual wear as well.

The Dress Slip-On:In today's fashion this shoe is formal; though not as formal as the oxfords. But this shoe is the most comfortable, "But with current men's fashion fueled by convenience and comfort, the slip-on nowadays enjoys an equal footing with the lace-up for tailored business clothes" (Flusser 196).

Tip/advise: When you're wearing your shoes there is a general rule of thumb that the color of your shoes matches the color of your accessories such as your belt (including your watch if the wrist band is leather/suede). Also wear black socks, dark colored socks are fine, and generally stay away from wearing neon colored and white socks.

Here's an example: These are oxfords

Would you say shoes is the top 3 most important parts of an outfit? Why or why not?

Men's Clothing: Ties

Introduction

Why are you here? Well you're here because you want to know what there is to know about Men's Fashion (clothing). But I sadly cannot give all details and information with my limited time and resources, but I will give you the essential knowledge to wearing your best for formal events and informal occasions.

Ties and Bow ties

Yes, this may seem abrupt in the guide, but a man should know what tie and bow tie to wear, when to wear it, and how to tie it, prior to putting on his shirt, vest and/or blazer. I will teach you how to tie a regular tie and a bow tie which are the most common ties in today's men fashion. Solid colored ties should be used for formal and anything else such as stripes, polka-dots and etc are generally casual. "Bow ties can be worn on both formal and informal occasions, day or evening, are correct with either single or double breasted jackets" (Flusser 163).

Regular Tie

"With respect to the necktie's ideal length, the general rule of thumb holds that its widest point just above its tip should coincide with the belt's upper edge" (Flusser 166).

Bow Tie

"Learning to knot a bow tie is not the daunting task you might imagine; it requires no more skill than tying your shoes" (Flusser 164).

What did you think of ties before reading this and do you think you can tie one now?
