Many ingredients found in makeup contain oil base substances which can be harmful towards your skin. Not properly removing your makeup can result to clogged pores, and infestations of acne and blackheads. Through cleansing and toning the face, you’re able to ensure the cleanliness of your skin.
According to the Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual, “The purpose of cleansing is to remove bacteria, makeup, and the dirt, sweat, and oil that build up on the skin each day. At least once a day, the skin needs to be cleaned with a formula that does not strip the skin of its natural oils” (Brown 34).
After removing all the residue, apply cleanser to your entire face and massage product into your skin. There are many formulas for cleansers such as facial soap (beneficial to all), gel (recommended for oily or combination skin types), cream (recommended for normal to dry skin types), and balm (recommended to all but oily skin). If you have an exfoliating cleanser, make sure to only use twice a week to ensure no breakage towards your skin barrier. Rinse with warm water and dry.
“Toners stimulate circulation in the skin, help restore natural pH balance, remove any remaining dead skin cells or greasiness, and give the skin a smooth texture” (Brown 36). Applying toner after cleansing ensures the removal of bacteria build up. Pat skin with a cotton ball with product of choice, or use a mist. Avoid products that contain alcohol as they strip and irritate your skin. Finally, once the face is thoroughly cleansed and toned, to lock in your hard work, apply moisturizer on damp skin.
Do you properly cleanse your face everyday? If so, what products? If no, will you consider incorporating these steps in your routine?
Hi Aliya, I properly cleanse my face everyday. I use the cosrx good morning gel cleanser morning and night. Although I says it's morning, I use it at night too because it's not drying and balances your skins PH level. I will consider adding a toner to my routine. What toner do you recommend for combination skin?
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy! A toner I recommend for combination would be Klairs Supple Preparation facial toner, $20 at amazon! non-alcohol and contains moisturizing components.
DeletePersonally I cleanse my face whenever I have the time, if I don't have the time then I simply use baby wipes to remove makeup then wash my face with soap and water. if I was to get enough time I would surely incorporate the routine
ReplyDeleteHi Topister! It's understandable. Skin care can be a time consuming process and requires dedication. Depending on how much make up you apply, baby wipes can be effective for cleaning the surface. People tend to use cold water as a DIY toner btw!
