An example from the book would be a quote said by Michael Jordan that states, "I play to win, whether during practice or a real game. And I will not let anything get in the way of me and my competitive enthusiasm to win" (Afremow 65). This example shows how is want to win was expressed in everything he did no matter what it was. He would never settle for anything less than his best when he was playing, which brought him loads of success in his career. Winning teaches you many, but loosing does too. Nobody wants to lose because the feeling of loss is so much worse than how you feel when you win or are successful. Another example from this book would be, "Always be in it to win it. As we've discussed, some athletes play to win the game, whereas others play not to lose the game. Don't limit your mind and body with restrictions' free yourself to perform. Your mind-set is that you have nothing to lose and everything to gain" (Afremow 89). The author includes this to tell readers that only you are truly able to limit yourself. You always have to want to win and settling will get you nowhere. Do what you do best and believe in yourself and your abilities and you will achieve your greatest aspirations.
Winning is a really big part of the game, but your desire and want to win is what will make you a better player. Continuously growing as a player and becoming better allows you to acquire more successes. Let that be what drives you if nothing else; that feeling of winning.
What are some things that drive you to get better?
