Fly Fishing
It’s quite possible that we’re living the golden age for fly
fishing, not because fish have become naturally more predisposed to bite our
hooks or because fly fishing gear has really evolved over the years with the
new fishing technology. One major way
the fly fishing industry has changed for the better is that people are always
coming out with new fly lures or with some new technique on how to use them. As A fishing angler these are some of my
favorite types of fly lures I have used over the years.
Rubber legged stimulator- “replicates a range of natural
insects like stone flies.” (Carmel 34) The best time to use this type of lure
spring or mid-summer. According to the
essential fishing handbook you need to dead drift the fly tight to the banks to
catch to most fish.
Autumn Splendor- “It has a nice crayfish appeal and drives
the trout wild.” (Carmel 34) My favorite time to use this lure is in the end
summer and in the fall. This Fly is kind
of like the Rubber legged stimulator in that you need to keep it close to the
banks with fast strips.
Twenty incher- “It has a wing accents to the oscillate in
the water.” (Carmel 34) From my experience you can use this fly year round but
I find it more efficient in the summer.
The most efficient way to use this lure is to make it the lead fly on a
double rig and dead drift it through a deep run.
