How to improve your footwork
Being able to control your dribbling is very important when going at a defender. "Hitting the ball to fast or to slow can determine the difference from giving away the ball or passing the defender" (F2 123). To get to this level many touches on the ball everyday is required. This can be done through many foot work excersises, today you'll learn one of those.Warming up should always be the first thing you do before touching the ball to prevent any unessecary injury. Warming up shouldn't take long only about five to ten minutes. This should consist of stretching and light jogging.
To begin this excersise "start with tapping the ball with the inside of your foot back and forth, this should be done four times, back and forth" (F2 125).
Next, after tapping the ball back and forth "roll the ball with one foot to the side and do a scissor on the ball with the same foot" (F2 125). "Cut the ball back with your other foot and start again" (F2 136).
This will be difficult at first and I suggest breaking it down one step at a time before continuing after a while this will be a lot more easy and you will see improvement in your touch and overall dribbling skill through time. Remember practice makes better, so don't give up if you don't get it down right away!
Do you think drills like these are the most efficient way to improve a players touch on the ball?
