Street Photography

Lets say you're walking with your phone. You spot a really cool car and decide to take a picture of it. This is Street photography. You've probably been doing this you're entire life, not knowing what it's called. Nichole woods in her book, Photography, states that there are five rules to street photography.

Rule number one, always bring your camera. "Always take your camera with you, no matter where you go" (Woods 90). Just trust me, I did bring my camera everywhere.

Rule number two, never use flash. "If you want to capture your friends doing something hilarious, the... moment will be gone once they take note of the glaring flash" (Woods 91). You can tell, all my pictures were done in the daylight, so I did not need a flash.

Rule number three, take a lot of photographs. "if you miss the perfect shot with one photograph, you may find that the photos that follow get the perfect image" (Woods 91-92). I deleted all of my extra pictures taken, again, just trust me. I followed this rule.

Rule number four, use zoom. "When children are unaware that they are being observed, there really can be some magical moments captured on camera... If they know you are taking photographs, children will pose and the pose may spoil the spontaneity of the photograph (Woods 92). My lens looks like this below. I couldn't see anything without zooming in.

Lastly, rule number five, be involved in every picture: "the best technique... is... by taking a photograph... to... a low level to gain better perspective" (Woods 92). I was involved with every picture I took, otherwise I wouldn't be there.

I personally would take pictures by these rules because they improved my pictures a lot.

Would you take pictures by the Street photography method?

  1. The street photography is a great method that I use all the time without even thinking about it. Even in my photography book it tells me about the little kids are much better at being Photogenic when they aren't even looking the camera. I Personally recommend this method when taking pictures of anyone.
