Beauty Routine: Importance of Eye Makeup

With eye shadow, eyeliner, and false lashes it can accentuate the the eye, and completely tie the whole look together. Lashes play a huge role in one’s transformation. You can even hide your mistakes with them. Eye shadow, as well as eyeliner can come in many formulas and textures such as powder, cream, or even liquid. It’s important to understand the tools needed for application. Such as a tapered blending brush, domed shadow brush, a flat angled brush, etc. Depending on the type of look you’re creating, there are many techniques in application, and each set has a purpose. Some brushes apply more pigmentation, reach certain areas on your eye, or simply blend harsh lines. Using your hands is more time and cost effective indeed yet it won’t give enough precision during more complex eye looks.

According to Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual, “To create depth or contour, choose a slighter deeper medium-toned shadow to sweep in the crease of the eye”(Brown 94). I blend the eye shadow using a circular motions until I’m satisfied. We are creating a more glamorous look so layering colors to create more depth is necessary. Much like a hair balayage, the colors should blend with one another like an ombre. Work from crease to your lids using variety of colors and techniques of your choice. To provide more pigment, rather than swiping with a brush, tap in gently to the designated area. For my client, I used warm tones such as browns, red, and even orange. To add a more entrancing, elegant feel to your full look, apply glitter, I used stila's liquid glitter shadow in the shade rose. A trick I learned to gaining more pigmentation is wetting your brush with a setting spray, such as mac’s fix-plus, or even water.

To finish the look, I applied kat von d’s liquid liner in the shade trooper, which is just black. Depending on the individual, you can apply using gel liner as well, which involves using a brush, or simply use a cream pencil. Make sure to place a thin line on the lash line, and thicken it towards the end to wing it out. It’s quite difficult, but practice makes better. Last, but not least, you can either apply mascara and be done, or.. Add false lashes. “Use a lash tweezer to pick the lash. After dipping the lash to glue(use dark glue instead of clear) give it a few seconds to air dry partially” (Brown 155). With the method of air drying, I’ve learned that the tackiness of the glue will help with longevity, and decrease the chance of having your lids stuck together. Apply the most glue at the end and the beginning of the lash so it won’t fall throughout the day. Then simply put your lashes closest to your lash line. DONE! My client, I used the morphe palette in 350, and ardelle wispies for her lashes. What products do you use for yourself, and what are your favorite eye shadow looks?

  1. I only use mascara - I do use some skincare - but mostly just natural oils. I'm not much of a make-up person. Gorgeous job on those eyes.

    1. Hello Ms. Robison. Make up and skin care can be very time consuming. I have a really similar routine during lazy week days. Your skin must be really healthy without all these extra products applied onto your face. also- thank you very much!

  2. I usually use the Naked 3 palette but also sometimes use Morphe 350 nature glow palette or the modern renaissance palette and I tend to like a lighter eye then a smokey eye.

  3. The palettes you mentioned are some of my favorite products ever! In real life, I usually opt for more natural look rather than a smokey eye as well. It's definitely more convenient.

  4. I really like your eye look! it was a great blend of colors, almost natural but still enough to pop. What colors/pallet would you recommend for a more red-purple look?
