Seasoning Properly

In the book, I'm Just Here For the Food by Alton Brown it expresses that the importance of seasoning as well as what to season with, "The base to any good seasoning is the simplest things, salt and pepper. Salt and pepper can either make or brake a good piece of meat" (Brown 38). I would have to agree with this, I have had some food that is just plain up bland, and the simplest thing you can do is just add salt or pepper.

The book also states that, "For the most part what makes a chef stand out from the rest is the way you season what you cook" (Brown 39). I made beef sliders for an appetizer, and I made one with and one without salt and pepper, because I wanted to see if it really did make that big of a difference. Not surprisingly the one with the salt and pepper was way better then the one with out.

The best thinks in cooking are the things that are well thought out and that are well seasoned, don't be afraid to put some salt in your food. Most people are afraid to over salt their food, but you will never know how much better it will become by adding the perfect amount of salt if you never try.

What do you think is a good seasoning for hamburgers?

  1. I feel like a good basic seasoning for any food is salt and pepper. However if you want to kick it up a notch a good way to do that is by adding garlic and onion/ onion powder. Another thing that my family likes to use the the McCormick steak seasoning which is a blend of many different seasonings that work well on just about any thing you want to put it on, I highly recommend.
