In my previous posts, the macarons that I had made all appeared ugly, boring, and colorless. This is a stark contrast to the small, cute, and colorful macarons that are seen in many bakeries. This time, I decided to challenge making the same macarons but also attempt to make them appear less ugly and more appealing to the eye, a step above the bland macarons I had made before.
After creating the batter, Hisako Ogita says that to add color, "Gradually add the coloring into the meringue; stir quickly but not too much. The color becomes lighter after it is baked, so make a little darker batter" (35). This led to adding about 8 drops of pink food coloring to get a clear color.
After the meringue was finished, Ogita has suggested that using a guide to squeeze batter onto will make the shape of the macarons more even and orderly (24), so I went out and bought a reusable baking sheet with circles that can be used as a guide to improve the crust shape from last times disaster.
Before, without a guide - the batter had spread around on the sheet, creating uneven shapes |
The upgrade! |
Afterwards, with the guide - most macaron shapes turned out the same |
After making the crusts, I quickly made the same butter filling I had made from the previous post, spread it onto the crusts, and I had pink macarons! Personally, I prefer these ones over the last ones since they look better AND I was able to complete more macarons because a larger number of crusts were able to sandwich with each other compared to last time.

Hi Sydney!
ReplyDeleteYour macarons look totally delicious! To answer the question, I would rather have 6 large ugly macarons if they're tasty rather than the 24 cute small cookies; due to the fact that I wouldn't be able to eat the macaron because of its cuteness. For your next batch of macarons you should invite a friend over because friends can give input on your baking and help you improve it. Friends also make baking more fun! Good luck on your next batch of macarons!
My question is, why did you choose to make it pink instead of a different color?
DeleteHi Thuy! Thanks for your feedback, making macarons with friends would be really fun and also help to improve my baking. To answer your question, I decided to make pink macarons since it was the only bright food coloring I had. I would rather eat pink macarons than blue or green. Would you eat a macaron based on its color?
DeleteHi Sydney!
DeleteTo answer your recent question, I would feel like I wouldn't eat the macaron based on its color but rather on its style. I remember going to Victoria in Canada, and going to this macaron store. In there I bought macarons based on its style rather that its color. I was wondering if it would be the same to you, would you rather eat a macaron based on its style or on its color?
Hey Thuy! Thanks for commenting again. I recall going to similar macaron stores, and honestly I would pick the flashiest and nicest style of macaron because they catch my eyes more than the more blander looking ones. Would you rather pick flashy or simple looking macarons?
DeleteHey Sydney!!
ReplyDeleteYour macaroons look totally perfect and delicious! To answer your question, I would go for the 24 cute small macaroons; because small ones are very easy to put into your mouth and they are just so tiny. I think you are doing a very good job with your blogs about macaroons. I actually had made them for my December blog and they took forever to make. To answer your question about “would you eat a macaroons based on its color”? Yes, I would eat macaroons based on its color. I think for these macaroons you chose the perfect color that is bright and look very nice. I would want to see more of your blogs! And as Thuy had said you should try baking them with your friends. But personal story when I tried them with my friends we started doing them but the we failed and got the kitchen super messy. Have fun baking! And good luck!
Hey Karina! Thanks for commenting, and I agree with you on choosing to eat macarons based on their colors, the better they look the better they taste right? I'm sorry you tried to make macarons with your friends and failed, it's really hard to do it right the first time. The first time I tried, I had to give up because the crusts didn't even look macaron shaped! How did your first baking experience go? Thanks for commenting again, and happy baking!
DeleteHi Sydney! Awesome post! To answer your question, I would way rather have 24 small cute cookies than 6 larger ones because I think the small ones are adorable. I'm not very good at baking or cooking but these are so cute, I might have to try them out.
ReplyDeleteHey Anna! Thanks for commenting, and you should totally start baking because its super fun and you get to eat delicious treats when you're all done! But as a warning, the first time making macarons is the hardest and most stressful thing ever... but after that, it becomes easier and you get to try more things!
