Flowers in Fashion

Hi guys! For this blog, I am going to be talking about the use of flowers in fashion. Now, even though it is possible, I don't mean real flowers! In this case, I will be talking about flower prints. In Christian Dior's, The Little Dictionary of Fashion, he states "Flower prints I think are wonderful-silk prints in beautiful colors are lovely for afternoon suits, dinner frocks, or cocktail dresses." (45). Personally, I agree with Dior. I think any type of flower print is great! However, if the print is too busy, or not matched properly, then I think the look is overwhelming. Flower prints have to be used simply, yet elegantly for the outfit to be just right.

For Christmas this year, I got a black dress with a Marigold flower print on it. The dress flows easily, and is one of my most favorite pieces of clothing I have. For this blog, I paired the dress with my black leather jacket and Stan Smiths. The green on the backside of my shoes matches well with the little green detail on the flowers. This type of incorporation ties the outfit together. This look, or something similar, would be perfect for a night out. And without the jacket, it would be great to wear on a summer day.

Dior thought that amazing colors with flower prints can create a very happy look. (Dior, 45). This would help make the person wearing the outfit feel happy, and look happy. I agree with him on this. If someone is wearing beautiful colors, they're going to feel beautiful, and flower prints can provide this for anyone. So, if you want a bright look, you should try wearing a shirt or dress with a flower print on it, and pair it with other simple pieces. This will give you a great look for a summer day or night out with friends. In conclusion, would you wear a piece of clothing with a flower print? And if so, what would you pair it with?

  1. Hi Ava! I like to wear floral prints, because it adds a little something to your outfit. I would definitely wear a piece of clothing with a flower print on it! I actually wear a red tie up floral shirt and I like to pair it with my green parka so that the colors look well together! I also like to wear the print with plain solid colored sweaters and then build onto the outfit by using the print in a scarf. I agree with you that the print makes a great look for a summer day out with friends because I feel that flower prints are usually on more flowy pieces of clothing which are most frequently styled in the summer.
