Be Your Own Champion

Believing in yourself and your teammates is a big part of success. If you believe you can do it, you will. The author includes many ways that your mental toughness plays a big part in your success. Always believing that you can achieve your goals as well as pushing yourself physically will allow you to achieve the specific outcome you desire.
One example of the authors inclusion of these ideas would be a quote said by Mia Hamm which states, "The most important attribute a player must have is mental toughness" (Afremow 49). This means that to become a well-rounded and successful player, you need to have both physical and mental toughness. The mental part of the game includes your ability to overcome your mistakes and move on as well as continuing to stay positive during your play. During any games, it is most important to let go of mistakes quickly and move on to the next move. This will allow you to learn from the mistake but also be able to quickly move on and redeem yourself. Of the court, mental toughness plays a big part in training for your sport. Believing that you can achieve your goals and always working hard to achieve them will continue to get you closer to what you define as success. Another example  would be a quote from Vince Lombardi which states, "The strength of the group is the strength of the leaders" (Afremow 23). This proves that a team is nothing without a strong leader or group of leaders. People that take initiative and lead the team to success are the most important factors within the team unit. Being able to not only bring up yourself but encourage others takes a strong leader. Finding ways to make yourself and your team successful will allow you to become a well-rounded player with many things to offer.
Many of these topics being discussed in the book offer great examples or ways to better yourself and contribute/lead to your teams success. What are some ways that you lead your team? What do you tell yourself or teammates to encourage them?
