Being Mentally Fit

Someone that is mentally fit would be described as driven, focused, and strong. All of the attributes work together to make a person successful and a winner by their own definition. Many people often believe that being good at sports means you have to just be physically fit when in fact that is only a small part of it. Being mentally fit and able to push yourself to grow and get better as an athlete is the most important factor when taking a sport or sports seriously.
A good example of the authors description of being mentally fit would be, "Attaining and sustaining success in sports always comes down to a survival of those most mentally fit. A strong commitment to excellence in training intensity and time over the long haul is required to progress as an athlete and to achieve your personal best" (Afremow 227 ). The authors description shows that being mentally fit not only means being successful but also maintaining your reputation of success and continuing to still improve as an athlete. Committing to your goals will allow you to strive to reach them with a more assertive point of meeting them. Another good example would include, "Remember why you play. Do today in training what other athletes won't do. Rest, relax, and restore to avoid burnout. Maintain a constant focus on improvement by looking for ways to progress in every area of your game" (Afremow 238). These small steps descried by the author makes great athletes. Always having your goals insight and thinking about them all the time is what pushes you to exceed them. Doing these things will set you so far apart from those that settle and will make a noticeable difference in your play.
What are some ways that you go above and beyond to reach your goals? Do you think that what you do fits the description of being mentally fit?
