In the
book, Teach Yourself Origami by John Montroll, he states that there three levels
to origami making; beginner, intermediate and advanced. There are more pages
dedicated towards beginners because not many people make origami and are
advanced. The sailboat I made happened to be in the beginner section.
In
order to make the sailboat you have to do a preliminary fold, Montroll states that
the preliminary fold is a structure for many origami designs. There are two
methods were you can do in order to achieve the preliminary fold. Method one is
using squash folds and method two is to fold and unfold. (18) To make the
sailboat, it said to use the second method (fold and unfold).
While
making the sailboat, I got confused because I only looked at the page which the
sailboat was on and didn’t look back at the page about preliminary folds. The
step that I got stuck on was “To fold inside, open the model. Repeat behind.”
(19) Since I already messed up on the previous step which was to make the
preliminary fold, I had to look back at the picture more than once. If your
making origami I suggest that you look carefully at the pictures/texts or it
will mess up your origami.
What kind of paper do you think works the best for origami?
