fishing line and hooks

Fishing is one of life’s most therapeutic experiences and can often be rewarded with a free dinner.  As I expand my fishing skills I have noticed that Correctly choosing the right fishing line and hook is a bit more difficult than it looks.

When choosing the right fishing line there are some things you need to consider.  First there are 2 types of fishing line, fluorocarbon and braided.  both of these lines serve their own unique purpose.  For example, according to The Essential Fishing Handbook “fluorocarbon is about 60% denser then braided.” (Carmel 14) Having a denser fishing line is most useful when using deep diving crank baits and creature baits.  Braided fishing lines are also unique because they can float on top of the water.  This line is most commonly used with Frog baits and buzz baits.

Knowing your hooks is a very crucial part of fishing.  The 2 most commonly used hooks are the circle hook and the bait-holder.  In The Essential Fishing Handbook, it says “dead bait and cutbait are most common for circle hooks.” (Carmel 18) For the bait holder hook I would recommend using plastic worms or a Yamamoto sanko because when the fish bites the plastic worm it has a better chance to hook the fish due to the 2 extra spikes.

If you have any fishing experience comment what is your favorite fishing line or hook is and why.
